All our Student Members can now vote in the first elections of the IPSO!

By voting in these elections, you can influence who will become our most important officers (President, Vice-President, Student Members Council Coordinator, Constituents Council Coordinator, and Professional Members Council Coordinator)* for the following two years. Considering the high impact of these elections and the importance of the following years for the future of the IPSO, we strongly encourage you to review the information listed here and to cast your vote. The IPSO needs your input!

You can consult information on the candidates and their plans on this website, which will probably help you to make a good choice between them. There are 8 candidates for the 5 positions and some of them run for more than one position**, so in some elections you will be asked to choose between options like "My favourite = xxx + My 2nd choice = yyy + My 3rd choice = zzz" (with xxx, yyy and zzz being the first names of the candidates)***.

You can also consult the task descriptions for each position, which may help you to decide if a candidate would be good for a particular position.

HOW TO VOTE:

You need to have a Yahoo ID before you're able to vote, but don't worry or run away: getting such an ID doesn't cost you more than a minute of your time if you use a good Internet connection. So please go and get yourself such a Yahoo ID if you haven't got one yet:

  • go to http://groups.yahoo.com

  • click on "Click here to register" at the extreme left of the screen (under "Sign In" and "New Users")

  • fill out the requested information, using the email address with which you are subscribed to the mailing list(s) of the IPSO

  • uncheck the box in front of "Send me ..." on the application form so that you don't get any SPAM (= unwanted e-mail)

  • click on "Submit This Form" at the bottom of the application form

  • follow the further instructions to confirm your e-mail address upon the (e-mailed) request of Yahoo

When you have a Yahoo ID with a correct and confirmed e-mail address, you can vote in two ways:

  1. First method: go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ipso and click on "Sign In". You will then have to enter your Yahoo ID and password, after which you will automatically go to the "Home" page of the Yahoo Group. Then you have to click on "Polls" (in the grey menu bar at the left of the screen) to get an overview of the five elections ("polls"). To enter your vote in these elections, click on the title of the election, indicate your choice among the options given, and click on "Vote". To go back to the overview of the elections, use the "Back"-function of your browser or click on "Polls" (in the grey menu bar at the left of the screen) again. You can then vote in the other elections by following the same procedure. When you have voted in all five elections, click on "Sign Out" at the upper right of the screen to leave the Yahoo Group.

  2. Second method: Click on the link in the "new poll" e-mails you received from Yahoo and then click on "Sign In". You will then have to enter your Yahoo ID and password, after which you will automatically go to the election ("poll") page that corresponds to the e-mail you used. You can then indicate your choice among the options given, and click on "Vote". To vote in the other elections, click on the corresponding link in another "new poll" e-mail from Yahoo or go to the overview page of the elections ("polls") by clicking on "Polls" (in the grey menu bar at the left of the screen) again. If you have gone via the overview page of the elections, you must then click on the title of the next election, etc… If you have used a link of another "new poll" e-mail from Yahoo, you will again automatically go to the election page that corresponds to the e-mail you used, etc… When you have voted in all five elections, click on "Sign Out" at the upper right of the screen to leave the Yahoo! Group.

The results of the elections will be sent out to everyone upon the closure of the elections on June 14 or 15, depending on what time zone you are in --- so don't wait until the last minute to cast your vote: do it now!

* Note: After the elections, two more people will be chosen (+ invited and appointed) by the five elected EC-members to fill two more positions in the EC: the position of Secretary (see task description) and the position of Treasurer (see task description). Following this, the seven EC-members will try to find volunteers among themselves and among the other IPSO-members to become Task Force Coordinators (TaCo's; see task description) and/or Dedicated Network Coordinators (DeCo's; see task description).

** Note: It is possible for one candidate to run for more than one position, but it is not possible to take up more than one position in the EC. In case such a candidate is elected for more than one position in the EC, he/she must choose one of those positions within 7 days of the end of the election. When he/she has announced her decision, the procedure shall be repeated for the remaining position(s) -- if necessary. If he/she does not take such a decision within the stated period of time, the President shall decide for him/her.

*** Note: When a candidate is elected for more than one position in the EC and has chosen one of these positions according to the procedure described in the note above, we will once again count the votes in the other elections he/she participated in. For this second count, we will remove the name of this person from the votes so that votes where he/she was "favourite" will be changed into votes where the "2nd choice" will be regarded as the one who gets the vote. This way we can simulate subsequent election rounds for the various positions.
